Way to go Annaliese, Penny and Andrew!

I hope you all had a relaxing and refreshing Spring Break!  This is the first Spring Break that I could not get my pond cleaned and up and running.  Still pulling dead fish out of it from this harsh winter!

Students' iPads will be returned on Monday and they go home daily, as we do not have a charging cart anymore.  It is important that students don't forget to charge their iPads nightly at home!  Again students should ONLY be using their ipads for classroom assignments.  They have a new reading popplet to create for vocabulary, a final reading project for our new weekly story, and book groups have been working on a Toontastic for their group book project.  Some students also still have late work from previous stories that they are still completing.

April 7th students' research paper rough drafts are due to be checked.
April 10th is the Incoming Parent Orientation that you should plan on going to at Julian. It is from 7-8:30pm in the auditorium.

Have a great week.

Weekly Updates

Spring Pictures will be taken tomorrow.  It is also the beginning of Spirit Week.
Grammar is due tomorrow, Tuesday is the Social Studies Challenge, and on Wednesday students should have a copy of their completed Bibliography to be checked for changes.

Homework for this week on the iPads will be a Popplet for our new reading story.  Also an
Educreation will be made to explain the comprehension questions at the end
of the story.   These are the only assignments this week besides charging the iPad nightly.  The Educreation will be worked on at school, and will only be homework if it is not completed for Friday.

Have a great week.

If you went to an iLearn meeting, checked in, signed the paperwork, your child will begin bringing their iPad home this week to be used only for homework assignments.  The assignments are app related, you should not see your child on the internet on any program this week unless they are on Thesaurus.com.  The only apps they should be using this week are Popplet, to finish their Hurricane vocabulary and, iMovie, to finish their movie on the story facts and questions. (The imovie will be worked on in class, so this really isn't homework unless they fall behind). You might be seeing them using Educreations, Showme, or Explain Everything, if they are working on late work for the story "Up in the Air" that was due last week.

Your child will be expected to come to school with a fully charged iPad EVERY day, so it will be a good idea if this BECOMES part of their daily homework.  Find one specific outlet in your home where the iPad is to be charged nightly, and we suggest it is not in your child's bedroom.  Just a tip, ipads charge faster in airplane mode.  As soon as I get the parent attendee list, iPads go home.  iPads WILL NOT be going home over spring break.  If you have any questions, please feel free to send me or Ms. Diehl an email.

Weekly UPdates

This coming week is ISAT testing.  Please make sure your child gets a good night sleep Monday through Wed. evening and a good breakfast in the morning before they come to school.  We will begin testing promptly at 8:30am each morning of testing, so please make sure your child is to school on time.  Once again please discuss the importance of this test with your child.

Thank you to the parents that donated healthy snacks for this week's testing.  I appreciate all you do for our classroom!

This Wednesday is the mandatory iLearn meeting in the Irving auditorium at 7pm.  If you cannot make this meeting, you are required to attend one of the other meetings for 5th grade parents given throughout the district. On Saturday I emailed each of you a flyer that included the dates of the other district iLearn meeting dates.

Have a great week.
