Welcome

A new school year begins tomorrow and it also is a final journey for your child at Irving.  I am very excited about this school year as there are many changes taking place.  To name a few, each 5th grade students will be receiving Ipads at the end of September, Math Common Core will be in full swing, and there will be a new report card based on Common Core standards.

As we prepare your child for Julian, you will notice a few changes as well.  Our job is prepare your child to become more independent and responsible students.  You will see this through homework, discipline, and placing more responsibility on your child, rather than you.  Working together, we can make this happen!

Students will begin math and reading on Monday, including Packer Math.  On Tuesday, Specials will begin and students will switch for Social Studies taught by Ms. Tresselt, and Writing, taught by our new 5th grade teacher, Ms. Ndiaje.  There will be math homework and independent nightly reading this week.  The first reading reflection log will be due next Tuesday and math homework is always due the next day.

Here's to a GREAT school year!
